Acclimation

Acclimation is gradually adjusting a fish to new water conditions, usually temperature and pH, rather than moving it directly from one environment to another. A common method is floating a bagged fish in the new pond for 15 to 20 minutes, then slowly mixing in small amounts of pond water before release. Skipping this is a common, avoidable cause of stress and shock in newly purchased fish.
