KH (Carbonate Hardness)

KH measures water’s ability to resist pH swings, its buffering capacity, and is distinct from General Hardness (GH), which measures dissolved minerals. Low KH means pH can crash suddenly with very little provocation; adequate KH keeps pH more stable even as the nitrogen cycle naturally pushes it downward over time.
