Runoff

Where It Comes From

Rainwater or irrigation water flowing across lawns, driveways, or fields and into a pond, often carrying fertilizer, pesticides, or soil with it.

The Hidden Risk

Runoff can silently push a pond toward eutrophication or introduce chemicals directly toxic to fish, even when nothing about the pond itself has changed. A pond built at the bottom of a slope is more exposed to this than one on level, well-drained ground.
